Curriculum - Year 9
Alexandra Secondary College's Year 9 Curriculum is a mixture of electives and compulsory studies.Students attend classes for 30 periods each week. Each period is 50 minutes. These periods are divided as follows:

Students must complete 6 short units over the year. They must complete 1 unit from 5 of the following 6 areas:

The sixth unit may be chosen from any area.

Semester 1 and semester 2Mathematics
Mainstream Mathematics or Revival Mathematics Senmester 1 and semeswter 2.Revival mathematics is similar to Year 9 Mainstream Mathematics in many respects, but with a modified content. It is specifically designed for enthusiastic students who are willing to strive towards VCE, but tend to find abstract aspects of mathematics challenging, and thus require extra support with their work.
Life Skills/Advocacy
Lifeskills addresses many areas that would otherwise not be systematically covered in the curriculum for all students. Units may include areas such as Safe Partying and Decision Making, Budgeting, Civics and Citizenship, Careers and Religion across the world. Students are involved in finding information on these topics from a range of sources, sharing this information with others and reflecting on their own opinions and values. A range of guest speakers from various health and community organisations may visit classes.Elective Units
