State of Origin Clinic

State of Origin Clinic

On the 29th of May 2009, the year 9 students of Alexandra Secondary College were presented with the opportunity to travel down to Melbourne for a State of Origin clinic at no cost. 18 students took advantage of this opportunity and handed their notes in on time and were then able to take the bus down to Melbourne for the clinic.

We were accompanied by the legendary teachers, Mr. Nadj and Ms. Malcolm who did a splendid job on the day with supervising, photographing and even joining in during some of the rugby drills. They encouraged and cheered us on throughout the entire day and did a fantastic job.

We were the only high school children there, and we stood out very well. Our group was divided into two teams which gave us more chances to participate in all the activities. There were 7 rugby drills that we all had a go at, with a free healthy lunch break in between. They supplied us with free sandwiches from subway and bottled water. The philosophy the trainers wanted to make known to everyone on the day was: Eat well, Stay well, Play well. By the end of the day I’m sure everybody had heard that message many times.

In the rugby drills, we all learnt skills such as: How to handle and put the rugby into play, many co-ordination skills, speed and tackling, how to pass and score as well as how to kick and catch. Everybody participated in every activity without failure. We all learnt a lot of awesome new things and the best part of all was that everyone had a great day with lots of fun.

After we had all completed each drill, the State of Origin players from both Queensland and New South Whales arrived at the clinic. We were all really excited to see them and get their autographs and photos. Kirby was so happy; she shed tears when she saw her favourite player set foot on the field. We all lined up for our autographed posters, hats and a whole lot of free gifts. The players were all very nice and looked great!

At the end of the day, everybody had a huge smile on their face. It was a great day! Thank you very much to Mrs. Kidd for organising the day on such short notice and thank you for all those who worked together to make this clinic happen, and the teachers and students who represented our College.
